What does it mean to be “grounded”?
To be grounded means to be in direct electrical contact with the Earth. Being grounded means there is no electrical potential (voltage) difference between the ground (Earth) and the grounded object (the human body).
What is the natural electrical state of the human body?
Our natural electrical state is grounded. However, many of the habits and routines of contemporary life insulate us electrically from the Earth.
What are insulators?
Insulators are materials which prevent the flow of electrons and when located between the body and the Earth prevent us from being grounded. Insulators are ubiquitous in our environment and include:
- Sealed Surfaces
- Many Other Synthetic Materials
They are the homes in which we live, the beds in which we sleep, the vehicles in which we ride, and the synthetic materials from which our shoes are made. Currently most of us live electrically disconnected from the Earth.
What are conductors?
Conductors are materials that do not impede the flow of electrons. When located between the body and the Earth, conductors permit the free movement of electrons from the Earth to the body, thus preventing the buildup of an electrical charge in the body relative to the Earth. Conductive interfaces between our feet and the Earth include:
- Get Grounded Footwear™
- Concrete (unless painted or coated)
- Stone or Rock
What are electrons?
Electrons are negatively charged particles that form a cloud around the nucleus of every atom. The Earth’s surface is constantly brimming with free electrons, electrons that are able to move toward a positively charged entity. Every human cellular process involves the movement of electrons. Thus the human body is an assembly of interconnected dynamic bioelectric circuits.
What are free radicals?
In human cellular biology, free radicals are positively charged molecules that are produced by our bioelectric circuits in response to a pathologic stimulus. Free radicals are bio-electrically very unstable, highly reactive and promptly obtain electrons in order to become electrically neutral.
What is oxidation?
Oxidation is the loss of one or more electrons by a molecule, atom or ion. Free radicals cause oxidation. The browning of a cut apple that is exposed to the air is a form of oxidation.
How do I become Grounded?
Walk in Get Grounded Footwear™ or walk barefoot outdoors whenever possible. Work or relax indoors in contact with conductive mats, sleep on conductive sheets, or swim in the ocean.
Why do the Earth’s electrons (energy) transfer so easily to the body?
The body is mostly water and minerals. It is a good conductor of electricity (electrons). The free electrons on the surface of the Earth are easily transferred to the human body as long as there is direct electrical contact.
Can I wear socks with Get Grounded Footwear™?
Natural foot perspiration will make socks somewhat conductive, but for grounding purposes it is best not to wear socks with Get Grounded Footwear™. There are conductive socks available on the market that could be worn in conjunction with Get Grounded Footwear™.
What is the difference between Get Grounded Footwear™ and other grounding shoes currently on the market?
The entire Get Grounded Footwear™ foot bed is made of a grounding material that allows connection through all parts of the foot rather than just through a small circular plug in the center of the shoe’s footbed. This allows for added comfort as well as providing an assurance of continuous conductivity.
What is the difference between the Earth’s electric field and the electric field used to conduct electricity in my home?
The Earth’s electric field is mainly a continuous direct current (DC) producing field. In contrast, home wiring systems in the U.S. use 60-cycle per second alternating current (AC). Humans came into existence in contact with the Earth's direct electrical current and alternating current is foreign to our biology. AC and other forms of man-made, environmental electromagnetic fields (EMFs), are being researched as possible factors in a variety of disorders.
What is Grounding or Earthing?
Grounding, or Earthing, is the practice of regularly connecting oneself to the Earth. When the body comes into direct electrical contact with the Earth, the body promptly establishes electrical equilibrium with the ground. People who make grounding a habit say they sleep better, feel better, and have more energy. Think of it as obtaining gentle energy in the form of free electrons from the Earth.
Why is Grounding so important?
Grounding affects every aspect of human physiology. When the body becomes grounded, it readjusts to its natural electrical state. Many people who have lived Grounded for a considerable length of time say that they do not want to go back to living ungrounded. They feel the difference. Living Grounded may possibly help elevate your quality of life.
How much time do I need to be grounded in order to feel results?
Although each and every human is unique, many people report feeling benefits after grounding for 30-40 minutes. That said, the benefits of being grounded most likely increase when you ground yourself as often as possible.
Can the body absorb too many electrons (too much energy)?
The human body cannot passively absorb too many electrons. Once the body is grounded, the body will only absorb that amount of electrons needed to maintain the same electrical potential (voltage) as the Earth.
How does Grounding help me feel better?
Grounding, or Earthing, customers have reported sleeping better, feeling better, and having more energy after grounding themselves for at least 30-40 minutes per day. Of course, this will vary for each individual.
Why don't I feel any different when I'm grounded?
Each and every human is unique. Some individuals experience the benefits of grounding (such as more energy or better sleep) quickly and dramatically. For other individuals the benefits are more subtle and/or occur gradually over time. Someone who is young and/or in excellent health and sleeps well may not feel any difference.
Can Grounding add years to my life?
Although the answer to that question is unknown, a prominent medical theory is that one of the causes of general deterioration during the aging process is free radical damage, also known as oxidative stress, which injures cells.
Is Grounding or Earthing safe?
Grounding or Earthing is safe and natural for people of all ages, but it is not medicine or a substitute for medical treatment. If you have a medical condition, see your physician or healthcare provider. View our full Site Disclaimer for more info.
Can Grounding protect me from cell phone signals and other electromagnetic fields (EMFs)?
There is no human research indicating that Grounding does or does not protect a person from exposure to cell phones signals, microwave radiation, or other EMFs. However, grounding does significantly reduce the body voltage changes generated by simple exposure to common household 60 Hz EMFs.
Why should I buy Get Grounded Footwear™ when I can simply go barefoot?
Many people opt to wear Get Grounded Footwear™ because of safety and sanitary concerns, inclement weather, injury prevention and (in some climates) to reduce the potential for parasitic infections. It's better than barefoot!
What is the difference between grounding shoes and electrostatic dissipative (ESD) shoes?
Grounding shoes allow negatively charged free electrons from the Earth to pass through the foot bed, which are then absorbed by the human body. ESD shoes allow static electricity to be expelled from the body but do not allow the absorption of negatively charged free electrons.
Should I wear Get Grounded Footwear™ during an electrical storm?
Wearing Get Grounded Footwear™ is like being barefoot. It is never advisable to go outside or ground oneself during an electrical storm. Your body’s electrical potential will be the same as the Earth while grounded, so if there is a lightning strike close by, there is a risk of conducting the electricity. Please follow the standard lightning safety guidelines as directed by the National Weather Service.
